Bull City Race Fest 2014

As most of you know, I am not a runner and I have never been a runner. My son, Brandon, has become a runner in the last 5 years.
I have seen him do 7-8 miles without even stopping. I do not know where he gets it from.... his father and mother do not have that gene. He inspires me to want to run and be a part of that subculture though so I am trying to learn. Brandon says that he can't figure out if I want to be a runner or if I just like the idea of being one..... he may have a valid point. At any rate, I have been trying to up my game and at least try. I hate to run alone though so it cuts down on the frequency of this endeavor. I have to change that. I digress though. This post is in regards to the fact that I "ran" my first race a couple of weeks ago. The distances were 1 mile, 5 miles, and 1/2 marathon. Due to the huge distance discrepancy, I opted for the 1 mile. Hey, I know.....but it was a huge deal for me. I did a 16:01 minute mile and don't know if that's good or bad but it's a starting point. The atmosphere was fun and inspiring. Huge turnout, happy people and tons of electric energy. I ran with a group of people in honor of one of the boy's friends, Yusuf, who passed in the early part of this year. He was 29, loved running and one of his dreams was to eventually run a race on every continent in the world. He always bit down on his medal after he finished every race. God bless Yusuf.
One down.... ??? to go.
